Eltrombopag is an oral thrombopoietin receptor agonist primarily used to treat specific types of thrombocytopenia, including chronic liver disease-related thrombocytopenia and chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), by stimulating the proliferation and differentiation of bone marrow megakaryocytes to increase platelet count.

Chronic liver disease associated thrombocytopenia

(1) Preoperative treatment: Used for adult chronic liver disease patients planning to undergo dental or medical surgery to increase platelet count to safe levels and reduce intraoperative bleeding risk.

(2) Applicable standards: Suitable for patients with mild to moderate liver function impairment classified as Child Pugh A or B. Patients with severe liver function impairment should adjust the dosage carefully.

Chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP)

(1) Adult patients: Suitable for adult ITP patients who have poor response to first-line treatments such as cortisol and immunoglobulin, as a second-line treatment plan.

(2) Pediatric patients: can be used to treat chronic or persistent ITP in pediatric patients, but safety and efficacy must be rigorously evaluated.

3 Other potential indications

(1) Aplastic anemia: Some studies have shown that it may be effective for certain patients with acquired aplastic anemia, but it has not yet become a standard indication.

(2) Chemotherapy induced thrombocytopenia: Currently, evidence is limited and further clinical trials are needed to validate its efficacy and safety in such patients.
