Raloxifene is mainly used for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and the reduction of the risk of breast cancer. Its use should strictly follow the indications and pay attention to the key issues such as thrombosis monitoring.

1 Indications

(1) Osteoporosis: Suitable for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, it can increase bone density and reduce the risk of vertebral fractures.

(2) Breast cancer prevention: used to reduce the risk of invasive breast cancer in high-risk postmenopausal women, especially estrogen receptor positive types.

2 Medication precautions

(1) Thrombosis monitoring: Evaluate the history of venous thrombosis before medication. If leg swelling or chest pain occurs during treatment, stop medication immediately and seek medical attention.

(2) Taboo population: Prohibited for individuals with active thrombosis and abnormal liver function; Pregnant and lactating women are absolutely contraindicated.

3. Management of special groups

(1) Menopausal status: Only applicable to diagnosed menopausal women, confirm follicle stimulating hormone levels before medication.

(2) Liver and kidney function: Mild to moderate abnormalities do not require dose adjustment, and patients with severe injuries should use caution and monitor liver function.

4 Drug Interactions

(1) Warfarin: may reduce anticoagulant effect, and INR detection frequency should be increased when used in combination.

(2) Estrogen: Combination therapy is prohibited as it may counteract the efficacy of raloxifene and increase the risk of adverse reactions.

5 Moisture prevention measures

(1) Dry environment: The relative humidity should be below 60% and can be used in conjunction with desiccants.

(2) Avoid refrigeration: Unless otherwise specified, it is generally not recommended to store in a refrigerator to prevent moisture.

6 Special precautions

(1) Travel carrying: Use insulated bags to maintain temperature and avoid prolonged exposure to high temperature environments such as cars.

(2) Child safety: It should be stored in a safe location that children cannot reach, and it is recommended to lock and store it.

7 Long term management requirements

(1) Bone density monitoring: It is recommended to have a follow-up DXA after 6-12 months of medication to evaluate the treatment effect.

(2) Breast examination: Annual clinical examination and imaging screening of the breast are required.
