Cabergoline is a dopamine receptor agonist derived from ergot, mainly used for the treatment of hyperprolactinemia and related diseases. It has a highly specific target mechanism of action, and its efficacy and safety need to be evaluated based on individual circumstances.

1 Core Indications

(1) Hyperprolactinemia: Treatment for pituitary adenomas (prolactinomas) and idiopathic hyperprolactinemia by inhibiting prolactin secretion to improve symptoms.

(2) Hormone regulation: As a long-acting prolactin inhibitor, it can restore menstrual cycle and fertility function, and reduce pathological lactation.

2 Pharmacological mechanism of action

(1) Target specificity: mainly acts on dopamine D2 receptors, with extremely low affinity for D1 receptors, adrenergic receptors, and serotonin receptors.

(2) Long term characteristics: Half life of up to 63-69 hours, can be administered twice a week, and maintain stable blood drug concentration.

3 Special precautions

(1) Fibrosis risk: It is necessary to monitor heart valve disease and pleural/retroperitoneal fibrosis, especially in patients with long-term high-dose use.

(2) Behavioral impact: May cause impulse control disorders (such as pathological gambling, hypersexuality), and dosage needs to be adjusted in a timely manner.

(3) Taboo population: contraindicated for patients with gestational hypertension, and not suitable for postpartum breast congestion treatment.
