Biktarvy is a triple combination antiretroviral drug consisting of biktaravir, emtricitabine, and propafenone. It is used to treat HIV-1 infection and has a dual effect of efficiently inhibiting virus replication and maintaining immune function.

1 Core Indications

(1) HIV-1 infection treatment: suitable for adults and adolescents weighing ≥ 25kg, as a complete treatment plan to inhibit virus replication.

(2) Initial and treated patients: can be used as initial treatment or as an alternative to existing stable regimens, and should be evaluated in conjunction with viral load and CD4 count.

2. Composition and mechanism of drugs

(1) Bicentecavir: an integrase transfer inhibitor that blocks the integration of viral DNA into the host genome.

(2) Enqutabin: a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor that inhibits the reverse transcription of viral RNA into DNA.

(3) Propenovir: a prodrug of nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors that enhances the concentration of intracellular active metabolites.

3 Special precautions

(1) Renal function monitoring: Regular evaluation of creatinine clearance rate is required for components containing propafenone and tenofovir. Patients with kidney injury should use caution.

(2) Drug resistance risk: Not applicable to patients who are resistant to any component. It is recommended to undergo drug resistance testing before treatment.

(3) Drug interactions: There are interactions with metal ion preparations, anticonvulsants, etc., and the administration time needs to be adjusted.
