Ospolot is a sulfonamide antiepileptic drug mainly used to control partial and generalized epileptic seizures. Its use should strictly follow the indications and pay attention to the medication risks of special populations.

1 Indications

(1) Epilepsy treatment is suitable for monotherapy or adjuvant therapy for partial seizures (with or without secondary generalized seizures) in adults and children over 6 years old. The therapeutic effect on absence seizures is limited and needs to be combined with other antiepileptic drugs.

(2) Other neurological disorders can assist in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, but are not the preferred medication. It should be used under the guidance of a pain specialist, and the dosage is usually lower than the antiepileptic treatment dose.

2 Medication precautions

(3) Dose adjustment: The initial dose for adults is 200mg per day, taken in divided doses, increasing by 200mg per week until the maintenance dose is 600-1200mg per day. Children should start at 4-5mg/kg/day, with a maximum of 30mg/kg/day.

(4) Liver function monitoring: Liver function should be checked before medication, and rechecked every 3 months during treatment. When ALT increases by more than three times, the dosage should be reduced or stopped.

(5) Monitor blood sodium concentration monthly for electrolyte balance, especially in elderly patients and those taking diuretics. Blood sodium<125mmol/L requires immediate discontinuation of medication and correction of low sodium levels.

(6) Allergy screening: Inquire about a history of allergies to sulfonamide drugs before taking medication. When allergic reactions such as rash and fever occur, the medication should be permanently discontinued.

(7) When drug interactions are combined with phenytoin sodium, the blood drug concentration of the latter needs to be monitored. Valproic acid may enhance the toxicity of thiamethoxam and the dosage needs to be adjusted.

3 Storage temperature

(1) Conventional storage should be kept in an environment of 20-25 ℃, and short-term carrying is allowed to fluctuate within the range of 15-30 ℃.

(2) Extreme temperature taboo

Freezing storage is strictly prohibited, as high temperature environments (>30 ℃) can accelerate drug degradation.

4 Packaging Requirements

(3) The original packaging should be kept intact with aluminum-plastic blister packs. If not used up within 6 months after opening, it should be discarded.

(4) Moisture prevention measures

When the packaging contains desiccants, they should be kept to avoid moisture affecting the solubility of the tablets.
