Common side effects of Zetia include diarrhea, joint pain, and fatigue, most of which are mild and self relieving. Effective management can be achieved by adjusting medication time, replenishing fluids, and taking appropriate rest. If symptoms persist or worsen, timely medical attention is required. The following are measures to address three types of side effects.

Diarrhea management

(1) Mild diarrhea can be improved by increasing dietary fiber intake, and it is recommended to supplement 10-15g of soluble fiber daily.

(2) Maintain electrolyte balance, drink no less than 2000ml of water daily, and take oral rehydration salts if necessary.

(3) If diarrhea occurs more than 3 times a day or lasts for more than 48 hours, seek medical attention to rule out the possibility of infectious diarrhea.

2 Joint pain relief

(1) It is recommended to engage in low-intensity exercise (such as swimming and yoga) regularly during the medication period, 3-5 times a week.

(2) Non steroidal anti-inflammatory ointments can be used locally, but long-term oral administration of NSAIDs should be avoided.

(3) If joint pain affects daily activities or is accompanied by redness, swelling, heat, and pain, C-reactive protein should be checked to rule out inflammatory reactions.

3 Fatigue coping strategies

(1) Adjusting the medication time to the evening can reduce daytime sleepiness.

(2) Ensure 7-8 hours of sleep per day and schedule a 20 minute nap during lunchtime.

(3) When the hemoglobin level is below 110g/L, check for anemia and supplement with iron if necessary.
