Vuity eye drops are a cholinergic muscarinic receptor agonist, a colorless, transparent, sterile eye drop used to improve near to mid-range vision in adult presbyopia patients.
1、 Drug name
The generic name of the drug is VUITY ®
The active ingredient is pilocarpine hydrochloride.
2、 Indications
This product is suitable for treating adult presbyopia.
3、 Specifications and characteristics
This product is a colorless, clear, and sterile ophthalmic solution containing 1.25% (12.5mg/mL) of pilocarpine hydrochloride.
Packaging specifications:
2.5mL/5mL bottle.
4、 Main components
Active ingredient: 1.25% (12.5mg) of pilocarpine hydrochloride, equivalent to 1.06% (10.6mg) of pilocarpine free base.
5、 Usage and dosage
Recommended dosage: once daily, 1 drop per eye.
Optional second dose: An additional drop can be added to each eye 3-6 hours after the first dose.
Multi drug use: If other topical eye medications need to be used simultaneously, there should be at least a 5-minute interval between each medication.
Contact lens users: Before taking the medication, they need to remove the contact lenses, and wait at least 10 minutes after taking the medication before putting them back on.
6、 Dose adjustment
There is no clear dosage adjustment plan for routine situations.
7、 Medication precautions
Before and after meals: does not involve oral intake, no need to consider.
Omission: According to conventional understanding, it can be immediately replenished when remembered, but if it is close to the next medication time, the missed dose should be skipped and the next medication should be taken according to the regular schedule, and cannot be doubled. Suggest following medical advice.
Vomiting: This product is used locally in the eyes and has minimal systemic absorption. Gastrointestinal side effects are rare, and vomiting usually does not affect local medication. If unable to operate due to overall discomfort, consider pausing once.
General precautions:
Avoid contamination: When dripping, be careful not to touch the bottle tip with the eyes or any surface to prevent contamination or eye damage.
Visual changes: After medication, there may be temporary blurred vision, dimness, or decreased night vision ability. Extra caution should be exercised when driving at night or engaging in hazardous activities in low light environments.
Regulating spasms: There may be temporary issues when focusing on objects near or far. If the vision is unclear (such as blurred vision), driving or operating machinery should be avoided.
Urgent symptoms: If sudden flashes, floaters, or vision loss occur, seek medical attention immediately to rule out serious risks such as retinal detachment.
Patients with iritis: If there is iritis, it is not recommended to use this product as it may cause adhesion between the iris and the lens.
8、 Medication for special populations
Pregnant women: There is currently no sufficient and well controlled study on pregnant women to inform about drug-related risks. Animal studies have shown that doses much higher than those used in human ophthalmology may cause fetal toxicity. It should only be used when the clinical benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risks to the fetus.
Breastfeeding women: It is not yet clear whether pilocarpine is secreted with breast milk and its effects on breastfeeding infants or milk production. The benefits of breastfeeding, the clinical needs of the mother, and the potential risks of medication to the baby should be considered before deciding whether to use it.
Pediatric patients: Presbyopia does not occur in children, therefore it is not suitable for this population.
Elderly patients: Clinical studies did not include subjects aged 65 and above, so it is not possible to determine the differences in response between them and younger patients. However, existing clinical experience has not found any overall safety differences between elderly and young patients.
9、 Adverse reactions
Common adverse reactions (>5%): headache, conjunctival congestion, and eye irritation.
Adverse reactions to the eyes (1% -5%): blurred vision, eye pain, visual impairment, increased tearing, and vitreous floating debris.
Rare adverse reactions discovered during post market monitoring: posterior vitreous detachment, vitreous macular traction, retinal hole, retinal detachment. Severe systemic toxicity is rare.
10、 Contraindications
It is contraindicated for patients with known allergic reactions to the active ingredient (pilocarpine hydrochloride) or any excipients.
11、 Drug interactions
The instructions do not explicitly state the interactions with other drugs. However, as a quasi cholinergic drug, this product may theoretically interact with other drugs that affect the cholinergic system. Please inform the doctor of all medications you are currently taking.
12、 Storage method
Store in an environment of 15 ° C to 25 ° C (59 ° F to 77 ° F). After opening, it can be used within the expiration date indicated on the bottle.
