Mucosta (rebamipide eye drops) is used for local treatment of ocular surface inflammation-related diseases. Standardized instillation, proper storage, and appropriate handling of missed doses are key to ensuring efficacy and safety.

I. Method for Administering Eye Drops Four Times Daily

Preparation before instillation: Wash hands thoroughly and gently shake the solution; when removing the cap, avoid letting the bottle tip touch any surface.

Correct instillation: Tilt the head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pouch, and instill 1 drop into the conjunctival sac, avoiding contact of the bottle tip with the eyelid, eyelashes, or eyeball.

Eye closure and pressure: After instillation, gently close the eyes for 1–2 minutes and lightly press the inner corner of the eye (at the nasolacrimal duct) with a finger to reduce loss of the solution through the nasolacrimal duct and systemic absorption.

Four-times-daily schedule: Administer 4 times daily; it is recommended to arrange doses at roughly equal intervals in the morning, midday, evening, and at bedtime to maintain drug concentration on the ocular surface; specific times may be adjusted according to daily routine but should be kept as consistent as possible.

Use with multiple medications: If other eye drops are used concurrently, allow at least 5–10 minutes between the two medications to avoid mutual washing-out and reduced efficacy.

II. Storage Period After Opening

Period of use after opening: After opening, eye drops generally should not be used for more than 4 weeks (refer to the package insert for specific instructions); discard any remaining solution after this period even if unused.

Storage conditions: Store in a sealed, light-protected, cool place, avoiding high temperatures and freezing; keep the bottle tip clean and do not rinse it with water.

Appearance check: Before use, observe whether the solution is cloudy, discolored, or contains precipitate; discontinue use if any abnormality is present.

III. Handling of Missed Doses

Instill as soon as remembered: If the next scheduled dose is approaching, skip the missed dose and continue with the next instillation as originally planned.

Do not double the dose: Do not instill a double dose at one time to make up for a missed dose.

Frequent missed doses: Replan the dosing schedule and set reminders if necessary to ensure regular administration 4 times daily.
