Mucosta (rebamipide eye drops) is a topical ophthalmic preparation. Clarifying contraindicated populations and special precautions is a prerequisite for avoiding ocular injury and ensuring medication safety.

I. Patients Allergic to Components of This Product

Absolute contraindication: Use is prohibited in patients allergic to rebamipide or any excipient in the formulation; patients who have previously experienced allergic reactions to similar drugs should not use it again.

Allergic manifestations: Eyelid redness and swelling, worsened eye itching, conjunctival edema, or rash after use; in severe cases, systemic allergic reactions such as dyspnea may occur.

Management principles: Once allergy is suspected, discontinue the drug immediately and do not attempt reuse on one's own; patients with marked symptoms should seek medical attention promptly and receive antiallergic treatment if necessary.

Pre-medication inquiry: Before first use, proactively inform the physician of any previous drug allergy history, especially allergy to ophthalmic preparations.

II. Soft Contact Lens Wearers

Do not wear lenses during instillation: Wearing soft contact lenses is not recommended during use of the eye drops, as components of the solution may be adsorbed by the lens, causing excessively high local concentrations or lens deformation.

Instill after removing lenses: If medication is needed, remove the contact lenses first and wait at least 15 minutes after instillation before reinserting them.

Lens care: Do not use eye drops as a substitute for contact lens care solution; lenses should be cleaned and disinfected as prescribed to avoid contamination.

Alternative recommendation: During treatment, glasses may be used instead to reduce contact between lenses and the solution and the risk of corneal irritation.

III. Other Populations Requiring Caution

Patients with corneal epithelial injury: Use should be based on physician assessment to avoid worsening ocular surface irritation.

Patients using other eye drops concurrently: Allow 5–10 minutes between different medications to prevent mutual washing-out and additive irritation.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women: Use should be based on a physician-guided weighing of benefits and risks.

IV. Key Points for Safe Medication Use

Read the package insert carefully before use and confirm no history of allergy to contraindicated components.

During instillation, do not let the bottle tip touch the eyelids, eyelashes, or lenses to prevent contamination.

If persistent eye redness, pain, decreased vision, or other abnormalities occur, discontinue the drug and seek medical attention.
