Rebamipide eye drops are used for local treatment of ocular surface inflammation-related diseases. During medication, close attention should be paid to ocular surface irritation, allergic reactions, and contact lens wear to reduce adverse reactions and ensure treatment safety.

I. Ocular Surface Irritation

Common manifestations: After instillation, transient stinging, burning sensation, or mild foreign body sensation may occur; most are transient and resolve within seconds to minutes.

Key operational points: Wash hands before instillation and avoid letting the bottle tip touch the eyelids, eyelashes, or eyeball; after instillation, gently close the eyes for 1–2 minutes and lightly press the inner corner of the eye to reduce loss of the solution and irritation.

Use with multiple medications: If other eye drops are used concurrently, allow 5–10 minutes between them to avoid mutual washing-out and additive irritation.

Situations requiring medical attention: If stinging persists and worsens, or is accompanied by marked tearing, photophobia, or blurred vision, suspend the medication and promptly obtain ophthalmologic evaluation.

II. Allergic Reactions

Key identification points: Worsened eye itching, eyelid redness and swelling, conjunctival edema, or rash after medication should raise suspicion of an allergic reaction.

Management principles: Discontinue the drug immediately when allergy is suspected and do not attempt reuse on one's own; patients with marked symptoms should seek medical attention promptly and receive antiallergic treatment if necessary.

Pre-medication inquiry: Before use, inform the physician of any previous drug allergy history, especially allergy to ophthalmic preparations; use is contraindicated in patients allergic to components of this product.

III. Contact Lens Wear

Not recommended during medication: Soft contact lenses may adsorb components of the solution, leading to excessively high local concentrations or lens deformation.

Correct sequence: If medication is needed, remove the lenses first and wait at least 15 minutes after instillation before reinserting them.

Lens care: Do not use eye drops as a substitute for contact lens care solution; lenses should be cleaned and disinfected as prescribed to prevent contamination.

Alternative option: During treatment, glasses may be used instead to reduce contact between lenses and the solution and the risk of corneal irritation.
